RATTAN SUSPENSION
EXPERIMENTAL PROJECT
"DUOS EN RESONANCES"
Imagined and supervised by Wallonie Design, the Duos en Résonances project aims to get craftsmen to collaborate with designers in order to develop new ideas about know-how, materials and uses...
CRAFT MAN
Thierry Busine works as a rattan furniture maker. He was trained in all the special techniques of the craftsmanship by the 5th generation of the Degroote company and continues the family business.
GOAL
Highlight the essential characteristics of rattan: organic forms, sculptural presence , flexibility and lightness of the material .
RESULT
A round and fluid form, which is built on a geometric logic; a repetition of identical elements which intersect and consolidate. each other. This principle limits the number of sizes produced and thus facilitates production.
Particular thought was given to the attachment system. Using 3D printing, the clips are designed to facilitate assembly/disassembly and transport, but also to explore a new aesthetic for assembling the rattan sticks.
The project is supervised by Wallonie Design and supported by the SofinaBoël Fund for Education and Talent, managed by the Foundation Roi Baudouin.
Developed in collaboration with Rotin Degroote
